You have to love and respect yourself for you to be well. 

Also if you hate and disrespect yourself:

-it is not good for yourself and your body, a bad energy that will damage and destroy you.
-you will be nerdy and not nice for other people to be around. People will be able to pick up that general dis satisfaction, unhappiness and frustration that comes from someone not liking themselves and being displeased and dissatisfied with their life.

The respect must be that you are good generally, however this must not be about being better than others, which also leads to arrogance and looking down on others.

It is about wanting things to be good and not just being better than others.

You can achieve this by doing good which means that you can love and respect yourself, if you do the opposite then that cannot happen and people will be able to tell.
