The importance of not taking things too seriously

When people take something seriously, they look stressed, concerned, agitated and ultimately very unattractive. For example a person bowling who takes it incredibly seriously.

When you take things less seriously, when people see you do something it looks like you did it more easily. So it looks a lot more attractive and fun.

However the really important thing about not taking things too seriously, is you don’t get too wound up.

Taking things too seriously can cause such stress and upset, especially in times of adversity, so you probably won’t live as long because it’s so damaging to your health.

You cope with things by not taking them so seriously.

People who don’t take things too seriously have much more resilience because they don’t find things so hard.

People who take things too seriously tend to age very quickly and look very old before their time. If you are in a stressful job the only way to survive it and not die earlier, is not to take things too seriously. When horrible things come along that’s how you cope with it.

It doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t focus and concentrate and do the best you can.  It’s surprising how you shouldn’t take things as seriously as maybe you think you should, because doing so gets you so wound up and can be so bad for your health.

So it’s a balance that you have to take things a bit seriously, but probably not as seriously as you think you should.
